Renting With Your Pit Bull

Finding pet-friendly housing can be tough, especially if your family member is
a pit bull. But, it's important not to get discouraged, there ARE pit bull-friendly
rentals out there, and we're determined to help you find them!

1.  Give Yourself Time

Don't wait until the last minute! Allow yourself enough time to research what's out there. This search typically takes several weeks, if possible give yourself up to 2 months or more.
(If you're in a pinch or simply need more time, consider boarding your dog at the vet office or a boarding kennel while you search.)

2.  Be Resourceful & Persistent

     Consult MyPitBullisFamily
We have housing options listed by state - if you can't find anything in your area, please send us an email. We'll be happy to ask our network of pit bull families to see if we can find more options!

Post "Housing Wanted" Ads on Craigslist
In addition to searching for housing on Craigslist (don't forget about houses/independent property owners), you should also post a "Housing Wanted" ad here.
(It's important to be honest and descriptive about your dog's breed, age, name, history, and consider including photos and don't be afraid to mention how responsible you are as a pet parent.)

Contact Local Shelters, Bully Breed Rescues/Advocacy Groups
Most of these organizations have a Facebook page you can post on for help, never underestimate the power of a pit bull network!

3.  Make it Worth Their While

     Additional Pet Deposit
Consider offering to pay an additional pet deposit to cover any damages.

     Help With Insurance

If a landlord won't rent to you because they have insurance that won't cover pit bulls or other breeds, offer to pay extra costs to help them get a new policy from a non-discriminatory company.

4.  Be Unique

     Create a Pet Resume!
So simple, but this can make all the difference when meeting with a landlord. Include cute photos, breed information, evidence of training, vet records, and references (your vet, neighbors, trainer or previous landlord).
